Our companions
These are commitments, not a count of companions. We aren't visiting yet, and we won't say we have a number of companions until we do.
Who will visit
Companions will be vetted people, chosen for companionship and outings. They will not be there to give personal care, medication or nursing.
The checks we will make
Before a companion meets a resident, we will check who they are, and make the screening checks that suit the role and the law in England. A companion can't visit until those are done.
Training and standards
Before a companion is activated, we will require:
- training in what a companion should and shouldn't do;
- safeguarding guidance and the check-in procedures;
- acceptance of our code of conduct;
- a successful assessment.
We will also require renewal and retraining.
Continuity
We try to keep the same companion for each resident, but we can't guarantee it.
Concerns
A care home can tell us about any concern at support@gothuman.org.
